A handsome pair of McGuire club chairs with sculpted barrel backs caned on both the inside and the outside — a labor-intensive detail found on only the better examples. Rattan pole frames in a soft bleached finish with the signature rawhide lashings intact at every joint. Loose seat cushions in a soft yellow with a butterfly motif.
Founded in San Francisco in 1948 by John and Elinor McGuire, the company built its reputation on rattan and bamboo furniture bound with rawhide that tightens as it dries. Its work became a fixture of West Coast interiors and remains a designer favorite for its handcraft and quiet luxury. This pair retains the original McGuire San Francisco brass plaque.
