Vintage Brass Cannonball Andirons with 4-Piece Fireplace Tool Set and Howes-Marked Stand, Made in USA
Description
A complete brass hearth set: a pair of cannonball andirons and a matching four-piece tool set on a round stand. The andirons have polished ball tops, baluster columns, scrolled legs, and pad feet on cast iron log bars. The poker, tongs, shovel, and brush have ball handles and stand in a brass stand with a gallery rail.
The stand is stamped HOWES, Made in USA, no. 156-1. Howes of Boston made stoves and fireplace equipment from roughly 1870 to 1930, and we believe this set is early 20th century. Both andirons are also cast "Made in USA" on the log bars. The andirons are bright, and the tools and stand have a warmer, aged patina.
Single owner. In the same family since the 1940s.

Condition: Good vintage condition. Surface rust on the iron bars and tool tips, light green oxidation at the shovel neck, natural tarnish on the tools and stand. Brush has horsehair bristles.
