Its expressive, … Read more A striking blackware ceramic Mother and Child sculpture by New Mexico artist Lawrence Vargas, signed and dated 1994. Its expressive, organic form combines a deep glossy black glaze with softly textured taupe-brown surfaces, hand-drawn botanical motifs, and inset genuine turquoise stones.

The underside is hand-inscribed “Lawrence Vargas, Albuq New Mex, © 1994” and retains its original Fall River Trading Post paper label.

Provenance: Purchased by the present owner’s parents from Fall River Trading Post in Estes Park, Colorado, and retained by the family ever since.
