A beautifully balanced piece, it stands out for its elegant proportions, sculptural details and richly grained wood, most likely imbuia. A rare piece in original lacquer with gorgeous craquelure. Over time the wood has naturally bleached by external influences such as uv light, leaving a warm tobacco/cognac coloured expression over the cabinet. When preferred the lacquer of this credenza can be stripped and refinished back to it's original dark color. The cabinet is divided into four storage sections, three fitted with shelves and one containing four practical drawers. Each door features a beautifully shaped wooden handle, adding a subtle sculptural element to the clean lines of the cabinet. The interior features lighter-toned wooden elements, creating a subtle contrast with the darker exterior and retaining a good vintage condition. The sideboard is raised on a distinctive base formed by two horizontal legs, elegantly connected by a wooden ledge. The combination of the warm, expressive wood, refined construction and carefully considered proportions makes this an exceptional example of brazilian modernist furniture.novo rumo was a brazilian furniture company associated with the development of modern furniture in são paulo during the mid-20th century. The company worked with designers and skilled craftsmen to produce furniture that combined modernist forms with the use of brazil’s rich native woods. Francesco scapinello was a designer active in são paulo whose work is associated with this important period of brazilian design. His furniture is recognised for its attention to proportion, material and construction, often allowing the natural character of the wood to play a central role. Today, pieces attributed to scapinello and novo rumo are particularly sought after due to their rarity and limited production.conditionthe sideboard is in good vintage condition, with some visible signs of use consistent with its age and history. Structurally, the sideboard has been carefully checked. Original lacquer finish, showing a beautiful craquelure thoughout teh whole piece.the veneer on one of the drawers shows some imperfections, see last image. One of the doors is slightly more difficult to close.
