To create … Read more Original artwork - "Wolf Moon" - I made this Mojave Desert landscape from wool fiber on wool felt. To create my artwork, I use wisps of fiber, instead of paint. Rather than applying paint with a brush, I stab the fiber into place with a special felting needle, which has barbs on it and meshes the wool fiber together, to create a picture. This method is known as "painting" with wool. I also added some embroidery stitching as accents to the landscape. To enhance the sense of place of this wool painting, I wrote the accompanying contemporary free-verse haiku:

Wolf Moon
icy caress of mountain breeze
in his den, lobo sleeps

The frame of the landscape measures 8" x 11" and the frame of the haiku measures 4" x 6". As shown, the framed haiku may be displayed under the landscape or to the side of it. Backs of both frames are wired for hanging, and both have a stand on the back so they could sit on a table, dresser, or bookshelf. Both are framed under plexiglass with archival mattes and backing boards. The textured landscape is set back from the plexiglass so that it will not touch it.
