The stepped Art Deco-inspired profile features the phrases "DOWNSTAIRS BAR IS OPEN," "TO LADIES & GENTLEMEN," and "SATURDAY NIGHTS" in cream lettering against a deep red background with contrasting border accents. Constructed from painted plywood, the sign was intended for hanging or wall mounting and retains its original double-sided painted graphics. Its bold typography, shaped silhouette, and well-worn surface make it an evocative survivor from a mid-century tavern, hotel, restaurant, or social club. See less

Painted surfaces display extensive paint loss, flaking, abrasions, scratches, scuffs, discoloration, and surface soiling on both sides, with the reverse exhibiting significantly greater wear than the front. Numerous edge chips, finish losses, and exposed wood are present along the perimeter. The plywood substrate displays layered edge wear, localized delamination, and losses, particularly along the upper edge. Surface checking, scattered impact marks, and handling wear are present throughout. Despite the extensive wear, the sign retains excellent decorative appeal and a desirable authentic patina. less
