The softly lobed form is decorated by hand with delicate polychrome floral and figural motifs and accented with fine red borders. Particularly distinctive are the sculptural branch-form handles and lid finial, modeled and painted in trompe-l’œil to resemble natural wood, with dimensional green leaves.

This naturalistic branchwork has historical roots in the Moustiers faience tradition, appearing on covered vessels produced in the region as early as the 18th century. This later Lallier interpretation combines that traditional decorative vocabulary with the craftsmanship and charm of 20th-century Moustiers pottery.

Beautiful displayed as a decorative object, the piece can also be used as a bonbonnière, covered serving bowl or trinket vessel.

Lallier was a 20th-century faience decorator active in Moustiers-Sainte-Marie, working within the town’s long-standing tradition of hand-painted Provençal earthenware. Pieces signed “Lallier à Moustiers” are typically associated with the mid-20th-century revival of decorative faience, characterized by finely rendered floral, insect, and bird motifs inspired by historic regional models.
