Vintage framed women's roller derby poster.
This piece advertises the women's roller derby league that used to be held in the 64-foot drillroom of the 9th Regiment Armory in New York. The Regiment building, built in 1896, was a medieval castle-type structure used in military engagements and as a venue space.
The large, stylized lettering and primary color scheme were popular choices for similar roller derby advertisements of the day. Included in the photos for this piece is video footage from a 1959 derby match between the Chiefs and Red Devils.
