A large scale 19th century folding double library ladder made of two sections of bamboo with an aged, mellow patina ranging from golden tan to dark brown and visible node markings and surface wear. The ladder is hinged and joined at the top with a weathered metal bracket with slender bamboo uprights connected by evenly spaced bamboo rungs tapering up to a narrow peak and splaying out to a wide stance at the base. As shown in the last photograph, with the addition of shelves the ladder can be used as an etagere. No maker’s mark.
