The body … Read more A mould-blown cased glass vase from the "Bamboo" range designed by Bo Borgström for Åseda Glasbruk in Sweden.

The body is a stack of cylinders interrupted by three swollen rings, so the profile reads as a length of bamboo, or as a column of turned wooden spools. A dense chrome yellow is cased in clear glass; at the foot the clear casing runs on past the colour, leaving the heavy colourless base the vase stands on. Faint vertical mould lines run the height of the piece — the range was blown into a mould, and those lines are characteristic of it.

Bo Borgström graduated from Konstfack in Stockholm in 1951 and began in ceramics before turning to glass. He joined Åseda in 1960 and was head designer there until 1976. Åseda built its reputation on strong cased colour and sculptural profiles made in industrial quantities to studio standards; the works were absorbed into the Royal Krona group in 1975, and production ended when that group failed in 1977. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no
official proof of authenticity,
