A vase from the "Kasvimaalla" series — the name means "in the vegetable garden" - designed by Pertti Santalahti for … Read more A vase from the "Kasvimaalla" series — the name means "in the vegetable garden" - designed by Pertti Santalahti for Humppila Glassworks and produced
between 1978 and 1985.

The piece grows out of a heavy, dark amber-brown base worked to look like turned earth or weathered stone, then opens upward into a crown of clear glass petals with a raw, frost-like surface. The two halves are cast as one, so the colour bleeds from deep brown into water-clear where the form flares. Held to she light, the amber section glows red at the edges.

Signed on the base and retaining its original Humppila foil label.

Humppila was founded in 1952 by the Helander brothers, former glassblowers at Nuutajärvi. It absorbed the Kumela works in 1979 and was itself taken over by Nuutajärvi in 1986 — a small factory, but one whose 1970s output is now sought after well beyond Finland. Santalahti's work is held in the collections of the
Finnish Glass Museum. This piece has an attribution mark,
