The design is defined by its extraordinary deeply curved barrel-form back, which wraps elegantly around the sitter and flows into substantial wings and generously rolled arms. The interior back is particularly striking, composed of a rhythmic series of pronounced vertical leather channels that lend the chair an almost architectural quality. Upholstered throughout in rich cognac leather, the chair has developed a superb natural patina over generations of use. Subtle variations in color, gentle fading, creasing, surface markings and areas of wear create remarkable depth and character. This authentic aging is an integral part of the chair's appeal and gives the leather a warmth and individuality that cannot be reproduced artificially. Traditional brass nailhead detailing follows the sweeping contours of the wings, arms and frame, providing a refined decorative contrast to the warm cognac leather.
