An extraordinary example of French modernist cabinetmaking.
The cabinet is distinguished by its bold and sophisticated concave curved front, designed to enhance the natural movement and optical depth of the fine flamed burl veneer.
Style and Architecture Details of the Cabinet
Art Deco cabinetmaking: the arched and rigorous line reflects the canons of 1930s French design, where the geometric purity of the volumes meets the exoticism and luxury of the burl wood.
Double-hinged upper compartment: curved profile doors with original solid spherical knobs; inside is a dividing shelf, ideal as a wet bar, writing desk, or storage for valuables.
Drawer front: Four large, linear-sliding drawers with continuous-pattern burl fronts and matching double turned knobs.
Architectural base: Slender, supported by saber-shaped supports that extend up the sides with an exposed upright, lending the piece a sense of spaciousness and formal elegance.
