Art Deco figural marble mantel clock featuring a patinated bronze or spelter sculpture of a seated young girl, created by the French sculptor Georges Maxim 1885 - 1940 and often signed as Géo Maxim, active early 20th century.
The clock was produced by the French clock maker S. Marti & Cie, a prominent 19th and early 20th-century French horologist based in Montbéliard, France. The face itself features a circular cream face framed by a brass with classic stylised Art Deco typography for the numerals.
The clock mechanism has been cleaned and tested by a professional. The movement inside these table clocks was manufactured and held a highly reliable 8-day movement. These were frequently supplied to various sculptors, designers, and foundries.
The sculpture has a beautiful green/bronze-tone patina. It is set on a geometric tri-coloured base made from a combination of multi-toned marble. This style was highly characteristic of French decorative clocks from this era.
The sculpture is a very popular subject, especially for the art deco era, are constantly sought after, and with her short dress and bob haircut, this young girl is beautiful and perfect.
It is very heavy, weighing around 6kg.
