Striking set of three vintage geometric stoneware mugs featuring a distinctive sculptural form with integrated rectangular handles and a dramatic layered drip glaze. The mugs feature a glossy black-brown body accented by creamy ivory glaze, with subtle blue-gray and iridescent tonal variation where the glazes meet.
The angular silhouette and hand-applied glaze are characteristic of Mexican studio pottery associated with Rodolfo Padilla's iconic stacking mug designs. While these examples are unmarked, their form, proportions, glaze treatment, and stacking configuration are strongly reminiscent of Padilla's work.
The three mugs nest neatly together on the original sculptural wooden display/storage stand, making this an especially appealing set for a Mid-Century Modern, Scandinavian-inspired, or eclectic kitchen display.
A wonderful example of vintage studio pottery that combines functional drinkware with sculptural design.
