A beautifully crafted Chinese hardwood box, likely made of Zitan wood, featuring deep relief carvings throughout. The lid is intricately carved with a traditional "Bogu" (Hundred Antiques) motif, depicting scholars' objects such as a vase of flowers, a bowl of fruit, and scrolls, framed by scrolling floral vines. The front panel features a similar floral and bird motif. The box is fitted with brass hardware including a front latch and side carrying handles, and opens to reveal a spacious, unlined interior. A wonderful storage piece for scholar's objects or treasures.
