A charming mirrored pair of vintage Chinese blue-and-white porcelain elephant candlesticks, each hand-painted with an auspicious shou longevity medallion, geometric Greek-key borders and small floral motifs.
Each elephant turns its head inward, its curled trunk framing the face, while a decorated saddlecloth supports a traditional vase-form candle socket. The complementary modeling makes the pair especially effective displayed symmetrically on a mantel, console or bookshelf.
Chinese manufacture, 20th century, probably mid-to-late 20th century. Hand-painted porcelain. The shou character is a traditional Chinese symbol associated with longevity.
Excellent vintage condition.
