A beautiful set of two vintage opaline glass bottles, produced in Marinha Grande, Portugal, during the 1960s. Elegant, sculptural and highly decorative, the pair showcases the refined glassmaking tradition for which this Portuguese region became internationally known.
The larger bottle is crafted in opaline glass with a rich mustard-yellow exterior and contrasting white interior, while the smaller bottle features the same opaline construction in a warm brown tone with a white interior. Both are finished with beautifully shaped glass stoppers: the larger in mustard-yellow transparent glass and the smaller in brown transparent glass. Their geometric silhouettes, rounded shoulders and distinctive spherical stoppers create a striking balance between architectural form and organic curves.
The design is strongly reminiscent of Scandinavian glass of the period, particularly the sophisticated aesthetic associated with Holmegaard, while retaining the distinctive character of Portuguese production. Marinha Grande has played a fundamental role in Portugal’s glassmaking history, with centuries of craftsmanship establishing the region as an important center for both industrial and artistic glass production.
Presented together, these bottles make an exceptionally attractive decorative set, whether displayed on a sideboard, open shelving, console or collected alongside other mid-century glass pieces.
Both bottles remain in their original condition, with no chips or cracks. A distinctive pair for collectors of vintage Portuguese glass, Scandinavian-inspired interiors and mid-century modern design.
