This oil on wood panel depicts two ladies in a sumptuous salon, dressed in luxurious gowns with delicate lace and floral decorations. The atmosphere of the painting is underlined by the rich interior furnishings, including carved furniture and decorative vases, which refer to the cultivated taste of the upper classes of the 19th century. Jolly's characteristic style is manifested in the precise capture of fabric textures, realistic modeling of figures and balanced composition, which appears harmonious and natural. The soft lighting enlivens the scene and adds depth, while the striking details in the form of flowers and lace ornaments contribute to the overall impression of luxury and intimacy. This painting is an exceptional example of 19th-century academic painting and represents not only visual beauty, but also a testimony to the customs and aesthetics of the period. The work is signed by the artist and set in a beautifully decorated gilded frame, which further emphasizes its elegance.
