An incredibly gleaming and glowing gilt bronze of the Two Fates By Jean-Baptiste Claringer. This bronze model is based on the marble sculptures that compose part of the east pediment of the Parthenon which is housed currently in the British Museum. The piece shows two of the three fates. Here, Clotho is shown seated and holding a spindle, spinning a thread. Atropos sits in front of Clotho, reclining against her as she holds a pair of scissors to cut the thread of life. The absent sister, Lachesis, is usually depicted as measuring the thread of life.
The piece is stamped ‘Reduction Mecanique / A Collas'. It is an incredible example. I have not seen a fully gilt like this one before. Truly rare. It is beautifully detailed as well.
