The stone displays exceptionally fine horizontal striations in olive, celadon green, cream, and warm mineral brown, creating an almost topographical effect across the surface.

A naturally occurring rust-brown vein travels through one side of the vessel and is completely smooth beneath the polished surface—it is part of the stone itself, not a crack or repair. The restrained cylindrical form, gently rounded shoulder, and thick rolled mouth allow the extraordinary natural patterning of the material to take center stage.

At approximately 6.5 pounds, this is an unusually substantial piece for its 8-inch scale and has considerable visual and physical presence. Equally effective displayed alone as a sculptural object or incorporated into a collection of stone, ceramic, or glass vessels.

Green banded calcite of this type is strongly associated with decorative stone carving from Pakistan; attribution is based on material and construction rather than a maker’s mark.
