Their design reflects the tradition of 19th-century American painted country “fancy chairs,” with New England and Pennsylvania stylistic influences.

Surviving stencil decoration and richly worn brown and dark painted finishes give these chairs an appealing sense of age and character. Well suited to farmhouse, cottage, rustic, or traditional interiors.

All six retain some stenciling on their legs. Three retain stenciling on the backrest panel and front seat lip. Finish and decoration vary across the set.

Condition: Offered in their current, unrestored condition. Substantial finish wear, scratches, rubbed paint, faded decoration, and uneven seat surface texture are visible. One chair has a rough surface on its lower front and rear spindles/stretcher, documented in a close-up photograph. Please review all photographs for condition details.

Exact age and maker are unknown; no attribution to the Hitchcock company is made.
