A Queen Anne-style round end table, made by a Southern California craftsman from solid sugar pine with hand-cut joinery and a natural finish.
The design is classic Queen Anne: four graceful cabriole legs ending in rounded pad feet, a softly scalloped apron, and a round top with an eased edge. It is a quiet, elegant form that fits a farmhouse or cottage room as easily as a traditional one.
ABOUT THE STYLE
Queen Anne furniture takes its name from Queen Anne of Great Britain, who reigned from 1702 to 1714, though the style flourished for decades after her reign, especially in colonial America. It was the style that fully embraced the curving S-shaped cabriole leg, marking the shift from heavy, boxy furniture to lighter and more graceful forms. Three centuries later, it remains one of the most recognizable traditional styles.
THE WOOD
Sugar pine is the tallest and largest pine species in the world, native to the mountains of California and Oregon. Woodworkers prize it for its stability and fine, even grain. It is a true California wood for a California-made piece.
FOR THE COLLECTOR
The name "Queen Anne" was applied by collectors long after the fact; in America the style flourished from roughly the 1720s to the 1760s, with Boston, Newport and Philadelphia as its great centers. Its signature is the cabriole leg ending in a rounded pad foot, exactly the form seen here, and period examples remain staples of museum collections of early American furniture. Each leg on this table was shaped individually rather than turned out on a production line.
AN HEIRLOOM AND A FUTURE ANTIQUE
Every joint was cut by hand and every leg shaped individually, so no two of this maker's pieces are alike. Built to be refinished and passed down rather than replaced, this is top-quality work made to become a family heirloom. Handcrafted, one of a kind and made in America, this table will increase in value over time as it becomes a true antique.
Perfect as a bedside table, a side table next to a reading chair, or a small accent table in an entry.
