Chinese Black Wooden Grain Storage Barrel With Lid, Attributed to Circa 1900
A Chinese wooden grain-storage barrel with a generous rounded body, removable lid with ring pull, metal reinforcing bands, and dark-patinated brass-tone side handles. The black exterior has a textured, worn surface, with scattered losses revealing a red layer beneath. The interior and underside of the lid retain a reddish-brown finish.
Traditionally used for storing rice or other grains, this substantial vessel brings sculptural form and character to a collected interior. Display beside a fireplace, beneath a console, or alongside a reading chair, with the interior providing decorative storage for lightweight household items.
Dimensions: approximately 18″ wide × 18″ deep × 15″ high.
