An extraordinary, matching set of six (6) antique Japanese Imari porcelain buffet serving platters or large-scale display chargers, dating from the late Meiji period (1868–1912). This half-dozen set features an exceptionally dense, high-vibrancy design that beautifully embodies the Gilded Age Rococo Revival aesthetic.
The face of each charger is centered by an asymmetrical underglaze cobalt blue foliate branch anchored by a single, prominent iron-red peony blossom. The wide outer borders showcase an alternating tri-panel composition: three circular windows framing gracefully hand-painted orange and gold Ho-oh (phoenix) birds slicing through lush green foliage, juxtaposed against three wide, fan-shaped panels displaying overflowing bouquets of chrysanthemums and peonies rising from traditional Japanese wicker flower baskets. Bold panels of geometric Ichimatsu checkerboard grid patterns provide a striking visual frame to the organic botanical elements.
The reverse rims are gracefully decorated with loosely brushed underglaze blue representations of Hoju (Buddhist Precious Jewels) wrapped in flowing orange ribbons—traditional symbols of wealth and good fortune. The centers remain elegantly unmarked inside a double underglaze blue ring, resting on a classic, slightly gritty unglazed foot rim.
Highly sought after by interior decorators, matching sets of six true antique chargers in this grand size are incredibly rare to find intact. They are perfectly scaled to form a monumental symmetrical wall gallery, display elegantly on hutch plate racks, or serve as the base presentation layer for a luxury holiday tablescape.

No chips, cracks, or structural repairs. Displays honest, minimal surface patina to the hand-applied gold leaf decoration consistent with age and stacking. Features an exceptional array of classic, authentic late Meiji-period manufacturing artifacts on the reverse, including prominent kiln-glaze crawl dimples, minor iron pops, burst glaze pinholes, and tiny grit inclusions from the original wood-firing process. These historical characteristics are entirely standard for late 19th-century Japanese porcelain and serve as verified hallmarks of genuine antique production rather than modern factory replicas. less
