This striking sculpture depicts Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva (Di Zang Wang), revered in East Asian Buddhism as the protector of beings in the underworld and the savior of lost souls. Standing upright in a serene, commanding pose, the figure is depicted as a monk with a gilded, bald head and a peaceful expression.
He holds a golden six-ringed staff (khakkhara) in his right hand and a luminous wish-fulfilling jewel (cintamani) in his left, symbols of his power to break through suffering and grant blessings.
His monastic robes are vividly hand-painted in shades of deep red, rich blue, and green, intricately detailed with a patchwork pattern.
He stands upon a vibrant lotus base with green and gilded petals. This piece is a powerful focal point for a meditation space or a curated collection of Buddhist art.
