It … Read more This striking French commode is thought to date to the mid-1800's and is designed in the Louis Philippe style. It features beautifully book-matched walnut burl veneer. It is topped with a piece of gray/black marble with white veining and square corners. There is handsome carved detail at the top of the front columns and along the front and side edges of the top.
The commode has two top drawers and two full-width drawers with carved pulls. At 58.5 inches wide, it offers generous storage and can serve as a bedroom dresser, entry-hall commode, or dining-room chest.

The piece is in very good antique condition, with age-related scratches, marks, and finish wear visible across the veneer. The intricate carved front feet show some wear. There is no key to the brass drawer locks and it is not known if the locks work properly. Drawers are of dovetailed construction, open and close smoothly, and the structure of this piece is sturdy and sound.
