This is an impressive, large-scale vintage porcelain jar, crafted in the classic Chinese blue and white style.
The jar features a bulbous, baluster form with a wide, flat mouth rim. It is flanked by two prominent, sculpted handles modeled as mythical Qilin (or dragon-fish) beasts. The body is lavishly decorated in vibrant cobalt blue underglaze. The main body showcases a continuous, dynamic pattern of large, blooming peonies intertwined with leafy scrolling vines. The shoulder is adorned with a detailed scene of a Qilin amidst floral sprays. The lower section features a band of geometric lappets containing stylized ruyi motifs.
The glaze is glossy with a slightly creamy tone, typical of vintage reproductions. The unglazed foot rim shows a natural, warm clay body with firing marks. This substantial and beautifully decorated jar makes a striking statement piece for a living room, entryway, or as part of a collection.
