Featuring a classic spiral-fluted stem and delicate bead-and-reel border molding, this sterling silver Kiddush cup is distinguished by its pierced openwork domed foot showcasing the Hebrew inscription "Ani L'dodi V'dodi Li" ("I am my beloved's and my beloved is mine," Song of Solomon). Rooted in centuries-old Jewish ceremonial metalworking traditions, goblets featuring this sacred nuptial verse became prominent in 20th-century Judaica design as traditional wedding gifts and heirloom Shabbat wine vessels. The rich gold vermeil interior bowl adds a warm contrast to the polished sterling exterior while preserving the silver from acidic wine oxidation.
Curator's Note: An exceptional functional piece of Judaica metalwork that doubles as an elegant sculptural object for display. The openwork lettering on the base creates dynamic shadow silhouettes under direct light, making it a perfect accent piece for mid-century modern, traditional, or transitional bar carts and dining displays.
