The original paper label visible in the photographs identifies VEB Kunstglas, with an address in Gehren, providing valuable evidence of its manufacturer and origin. The bowl features an unusual angular, diamond-shaped configuration with sharply faceted transparent glass walls surrounding a recessed triangular central compartment. Measuring approximately 17 × 17 × 3 cm, the piece displays the geometric experimentation characteristic of mid-century European decorative glass, particularly designs produced in the German Democratic Republic. The combination of precise cutting, optical transparency, and sculptural construction creates a distinctive architectural appearance. The surviving manufacturer’s label and small gold identification sticker further support its identification as an East German production rather than contemporary unmarked decorative glass. VEB Kunstglas was among the East German glass manufacturers producing decorative and functional glassware during the postwar period, with particular emphasis on cut, coloured, and geometrically shaped designs. Today, these objects attract collectors of mid-century modern and Eastern European decorative arts, although their market remains relatively modest compared with established Italian or Scandinavian glass manufacturers. The present example benefits from its distinctive faceted construction and surviving manufacturer identification. See less
