An intricately carved Chinese soapstone display featuring birds perched among a dense arrangement of fruiting branches and foliage, surrounding an integrated upright vessel and shallow bowl.

Warm russet, caramel, and reddish-brown tones contrast with darker charcoal-colored areas, particularly striking in the carved birds and rocky base. Pierced openings between the branches lend depth to the composition, while incised feather and leaf details reward a closer look.

The combination of a taller vessel and shallow basin is characteristic of decorative brush pot and brush washer arrangements associated with the scholar’s desk. An engaging accent for a library, study, collected interior, or display of Chinese decorative arts.
