Studio 54 meets traditional Japanese motifs with this 1970's mixed media painting which incorporates padded and quilted fabrics with watercolor paints, wood and metal. The piece depicts a Samurai or traditional Japanese figure dressed in a dark brown and peach colored cloak made from ruched silk faille fabric and padded silk with painted embellishments. The applied accessories to the garment includes a neon orange and white band. The cloak conceals a weapon with a wood and metal handle applique. The gold lamé backdrop adds the quintessential 1970's disco look lending the piece a late mid 20th century Asian modern vibe. Stretched on wood and framed in a gold tone aluminum outfitted with sawtooth hardware for hanging. Signed with a red stamp that appears to read 'Natsuki'...artist unknown. Sure to make a bold statement in any room of the house.
Good condition with some signs of age though nothing truly objectionable. There is a short fray at the top of the gold lamé fabric close to the frame as shown in photograph 12. There is also a small white paint mark that may have been a stray stroke from the original artist, as shown in photograph 13.
Measures 28.25" wide x 54.25" tall x 1.5" deep including the frame.
