17th-century cast brass tripod cauldron from Northern Europe. The straight sides are banded with incised rings, with two cast lugs, three cast legs and a wrought iron bail handle.
This is how cooking was done before the stove. The three legs stood the pot directly in the embers of an open hearth, and the iron handle let it hang from a pot hook over the fire.
