set of four original ch36 dining chairs in solid oak, designed in 1962 by hans j. Wegner and manufactured in the 1970s by carl hansen & søn in denmark. Wegner is one of the most important furniture designers of the 20th century; with the ch36, he created a deliberately simple, honest chair in which the influence of american shaker furniture is clearly evident: clean lines, minimalist construction, and impeccable craftsmanship.

a characteristic feature is the gently curved, wide backrest, which comfortably cradles the back and rests on two slender rear legs. The seat is hand-woven with danish paper cord—a material that wegner frequently used and which stands for lightness, comfort, and exceptional durability.

the chairs have been carefully cleaned, re-oiled, and sealed; the solid oak now displays a beautiful, naturally grown patina. The seats have been re-woven with danish paper cord. A previous owner had shortened the legs – we restored them to their original height and deliberately lengthened them with contrasting walnut feet. This unique detail adds an extra touch of elegance and makes the classic design truly special.

condition: very good vintage condition – cleaned, re-oiled, and sealed, with new danish paper cord seat weaving and extended legs with walnut feet. A timeless classic of danish design history with a distinctive character, perfect for sophisticated dining areas.
