original s 533 rf cantilever chair, designed by ludwig mies van der rohe for thonet. Developed in 1927, this armchair is one of the earliest and most significant cantilever designs in design history and marks a milestone of modernism. In the lead-up to the weissenhof estate in stuttgart, mies van der rohe explored the cantilever chair principle developed by mart stam and created a completely new, elegant interpretation. With its characteristic, generously curved tubular steel form, the s 533 combines technical innovation with architectural lightness and remains one of the most iconic bauhaus designs.

the chair is made of bent, chrome-plated tubular steel and features natural rattan weaving on the seat and back. The construction, formed from a single steel tube, gives the cantilever chair its characteristic permanently elastic suspension and exceptionally high seating comfort. The transparent design language and the high-quality combination of materials make the s 533 both a functional piece of seating furniture and a sculptural design icon – whether at a desk, in a reading room, or as an end chair at the dining table. condition: excellent vintage condition. The original rattan weave has no breaks or damage and is free of stains. The chrome shows only a few minor signs of age-related wear. An exceptionally well-preserved example of one of the most important bauhaus and thonet classics.
