A mid-century english ceramic vase by c.h. Brannam of barnstaple, devon, featuring a sculptural modernist form finished in a luminous turquoise glaze. Dating to the mid-20th century, this earthenware vase combines bold, rounded proportions with restrained architectural detailing. The generously proportioned, bulbous body is encircled by elongated, raised vertical lobes, creating a rhythmic, almost organic surface. These curved sections rise towards a cylindrical neck with a subtly flared, rolled rim, while a circular foot provides a balanced foundation. The glossy turquoise glaze has a soft, mineral-like quality, with delicate tonal variations accentuating the relief decoration. Established in the mid-19th century, brannam became an important name in british art pottery under charles hubert brannam. Associated with the wider tradition of devon and torquay pottery, the company developed a reputation for inventive forms, distinctive glazes and decorative ceramics, including its celebrated royal barum ware. This later example demonstrates the firm's movement towards simpler, more contemporary designs. The underside bears the impressed c.h. Brannam ltd, barnstaple manufacturer's mark. Condition: very good vintage condition. One small glaze chip to the outer rim and three small glaze chips around the foot. Minor firing imperfections and natural variations within the glaze. Dimensions: height 23.5 cm (9.25 in) × diameter 15.5 cm (6.10 in). This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no
official proof of authenticity,
however it is well documented in design history. I take full responsibility for any authenticity
