White porcelain group of two horses, designed by Hans Achtziger for the Art Department of Lorenz Hutschenreuther, Selb.
The horses are modelled as a single sculptural group on a shared naturalistic base. One animal rears, forelegs lifted and head turned; the other strides forward beside it, head lowered. Manes, tails, musculature and hooves are worked in the round. The pair is braced by a modelled tree stump and foliage rising from an irregular grassy ground.
The base is incised ACHTZIGER. The underside bears the printed factory mark of a lion in an oval with the date 1814, above the inscription Hutschenreuther / Germany / Kunstabteilung.
The surface is matte white, typical of the Hutschenreuther Art Department animal groups of the later 20th century.
Width 43 cm (16.9 in), height 37 cm (14.6 in), depth 20 cm (7.9 in). This piece has an attribution mark,
