A charming and sculptural vintage Italian ceramic duck ashtray or catchall designed by Aldo Londi for Bitossi, circa 1950s/1960s.
Handcrafted in Italy, the piece features a beautifully stylized duck form with an elongated bill, rounded body, and subtly articulated wings and tail. Its distinctive dark metallic glaze evokes the rich, aged patina of antiqued bronze, lending the ceramic an almost cast-metal appearance.
A wonderful example of mid-century Italian decorative pottery, balancing playful figuration with the sophisticated craftsmanship associated with Londi’s work for Bitossi. Equally compelling as a functional catchall or standalone sculptural object.
