Antique Chinese kang cabinet in northern elm (yumu) and fir (shanmu), Fujian origin, dated circa 1870-1890 by the accompanying dealer certificate from The Red Cabinet (Hong Kong), a photograph of which is included in this listing — the certificate's photo is this exact piece. Kang cabinets are the low storage cabinets made for the heated kang platform in northern Chinese homes; today they make superb low media consoles and entry cabinets.
The front has pierced, gilt carved panels with birds among peonies, two pairs of doors with traditional bronze pin-latch hardware, and five drawers hand-painted with floral sprays. Corner finials, mortise construction throughout.
The first photo is a styled rendering showing the cabinet in a room setting; the remaining photos show the actual piece. The listing is for the cabinet only — artwork, mirror, vase, books and other styling items are not included.
