artist carlo scarpa (venice, 1906 – sendai, 1978) was an italian architect and designer with a deep connection to glassmaking. His long collaboration with the venini glassworks, which began in the 1920s, formed the core of his creative language: in the furnaces of murano, he experimented with colors, textures, and techniques that allowed him to develop a unique sensitivity to materials, light, and details. This artisanal approach became the hallmark of his architecture, evident in works such as the castelvecchio museum, the querini stampalia, and the brion tomb. Always meticulous in his attention to detail, scarpa blended tradition and modernity with an almost calligraphic touch. His experience with venini remained the foundation of his design philosophy.
