the tanuki features a distinctive upturned snout, a full rounded belly and a wide traditional straw hat. The earthenware is finished in warm terracotta and cream tones, with blue-grey accents and fine incised details that give the fur a rich texture.

in one paw, he holds a sake bottle decorated with the japanese character 八 (hachi, eight), referring to the eight traditional symbols of good fortune associated with the tanuki. A traditional account book with japanese calligraphy hangs at his side, symbolising trust and prosperity.
