Hand-carved and polychromed, this remarkable object represents the shop sign of a learned butcher or master butcher and is distinguished by an iconography of exceptional rarity, making it an extraordinary survival of traditional Central European guild culture.

The carved composition features finely executed painted figures housed within a wooden case, reflecting the high level of craftsmanship associated with South German folk carving. Trade signs of this type once served as both advertisements and symbols of professional status, identifying workshops and businesses in an era before numbered street addresses became commonplace.

Of particular interest is the original metal plaque, now worn to the point of illegibility, adding to the object's authenticity and evidence of decades upon decades of use.

Rarely encountered on the market, especially with such an unusual representation, this guild sign is an important collector's piece for those interested in guild history, folk art, and early commercial signage.

The original ropes have been exchanged with rope to ensure stability and eliminate the danger of falling.
