Exceptional vintage Mexican Modernist silver-plated water pitcher designed and manufactured by Los Fajardo in Taxco, Mexico, circa 1960s.
Handcrafted from solid hammered brass with a silver-plated finish, this sculptural pitcher features a gracefully flared spout, rounded body, and an extraordinary parrot-shaped handle embellished with vibrant turquoise-blue stone inlay with distinctive dark veining. The parrot's curved brass beak and finely detailed metalwork add a whimsical yet sophisticated character to this striking piece of Mexican decorative art.
The pitcher beautifully combines traditional Taxco silversmithing techniques with the organic forms, animal motifs, and bold use of natural materials associated with Mexican Mid-Century Modern design.
The piece retains its original Los Fajardo hallmark, stamped "Fajardo, Taxco Mexico, Plateado."
About Los Fajardo:
Los Fajardo was among the Mexican metalworking workshops associated with Taxco's celebrated tradition of handcrafted silver and silver-plated decorative objects. The workshop's designs reflect the region's distinctive approach to combining sculptural metalwork with colorful stone embellishments and motifs inspired by nature.
Taxco became an internationally recognized center for modern Mexican silver design during the 20th century, led by influential artists and workshops such as William Spratling, Los Castillo, Antonio Pineda, Margot de Taxco, Hector Aguilar, and Emilia Castillo. Their work helped establish the distinctive aesthetic of Mexican Modernism, blending traditional craftsmanship with innovative designs and materials.
This decorative pitcher would make a striking addition to a curated collection of Mexican silver, Mid-Century Modern barware, or Latin American decorative arts. Equally suited for display on a dining table, bar cart, credenza, or in a contemporary interior.
