This is a striking and substantial pair of vintage carved bluestone guardian lions (Foo Dogs), classic symbols of protection and prosperity in traditional Asian culture. Expertly carved from dark bluestone, the figures feature intricate detailing in their curly manes, expressive faces, and muscular bodies.
The male lion rests his paw upon a ball (symbolizing the world), while the female lion rests her paw upon a cub (symbolizing nurture). Each lion is seated upon a sturdy, carved rectangular plinth with decorative motifs.
These heavy, architectural pieces are perfect for flanking a doorway, framing a garden path, or as striking statement accents in a grand entryway or living space.
