Presenting a monumental and striking vintage ceramic sculpture of a mythical Chinese beast, likely a Pixiu (a creature believed to attract wealth and ward off evil). This large-scale piece stands 34 cm tall and is a commanding focal point for any interior.
The beast is modeled in a dynamic, seated posture, with its head turned sharply to the side, mouth open in a fierce roar. The sculpture is heavily detailed, featuring flowing manes, muscular limbs, bulging eyes, and a scaly, textured body with a scrolling, cloud-like tail.
The most captivating feature is its spectacular "flambé" (yaobian) glaze. The surface transitions between a mottled, pale seafoam green/blue and deep, splattered crimson and plum red. The glaze has a thick, glossy finish with a prominent crackle (crazing) texture, imitating the unpredictable and beautiful results of traditional kiln firing. The feet and the unglazed base reveal the natural, pale terracotta clay body.
This is a bold, sculptural piece that blends traditional Chinese mythology with the raw, organic beauty of kiln transmutation.

The spectacular flambé glaze is intact and highly glossy. The prominent crackle texture is intentional and part of the design, not damage. The intricate details of the mane, scales, and facial features remain remarkably crisp. The unglazed base and feet show natural firing marks and some minor wear. There are no major chips or cracks visible. Please review all photos carefully for details on the glaze variations and the overall sculptural form. less
