A pair of Italian painted chests of drawers from the 20th century, distinguished by their elegant bombe form and slender tapered legs. Each piece has a gently swelling front that narrows toward the base, supported by four pointed, outward-splaying legs. The painted surface is finished in an aged off-white ground, decorated with a repeating pattern of linked arches and small stylized motifs in muted grey. The tops are finished in a dark grey marble effect, showing the wear and softening typical of use.Each commode contains two full-width drawers fitted with small brass knobs. The interiors are of plain wood. The overall silhouette is light and graceful, with the curved sides and delicate legs giving the pieces a refined presence suited to a bedroom or sitting room. The painted decoration and marble-look tops are characteristic of 20th-century Italian furniture made in the spirit of earlier models, with an intentionally softened and aged finish.Origin: Italy
