Designed by michael waltersdorff, the sørup design dates to 1989 and has remained part of halo design’s lighting collection in various versions over the years.

this particular example comes in a rare lilac finish, paired with chrome details that give the lamp an especially light and elegant appearance. The broad, gently curved metal shade is complemented by a smaller circular upper plate, connected through three polished metal spacers. Below, a cylindrical element surrounds the light source, completing the lamp’s distinctive layered construction.

the sørup was designed not only as a decorative object but also around the quality of its illumination. Its layered shade construction conceals the bulb from direct view while reflecting and directing the light downwards, creating comfortable illumination over a dining table, kitchen table, or reading area.

the combination of soft lilac lacquer, chrome and transparent cable gives this particular version an unusual almost retro-futuristic appearance. Compared with the more commonly encountered white, black and metallic sørup variants, the lilac colourway is considerably less frequently seen and makes the lamp particularly appealing for collectors of colourful scandinavian design.

the lamp retains a transparent electrical cord, which visually disappears when suspended and allows the sculptural shade to remain the main focus. The chrome-covered socket complements the other polished metal details of the construction.

halo design is a danish lighting company known for combining scandinavian simplicity with practical, accessible lighting solutions. Designer michael waltersdorff has played a central role in the company’s design identity, creating numerous lighting collections characterized by functional construction, clean forms and carefully considered light distribution.
