Most portables from this period are black or grey, so a turquoise machine with a chrome rheinmetall script on the front is not something you see often.

rheinmetall typewriters came from sömmerda in thuringia. The factory belonged to rheinmetall-borsig before the war, went into soviet hands in 1946, and in 1952 became a state-owned works in east germany. The name stayed on the machines until the late 1950s, when the west german company with the same name put a stop to it. So these were made in a fairly short window.

four-row qwertz keyboard, standard typebar mechanism. It has been cleaned up and it types. There is light wear here and there, mostly on the edges, which i have photographed rather than hidden.

it is a portable, so it fits on a desk or a shelf without taking over the room. Width 36 cm, depth 32 cm, height 14.5 cm. This piece has an attribution mark,
