Coffee table / side table - roger capron
stoneware and metal
circa 1960
w92.5 x d43.5 x h30 cm
a lightweight metal frame with a deliberately weathered finish, paired with stoneware tiles engraved with leaf imprints that form the garrigue herbarium—a motif frequently explored by the artist.
the colors of autumn are serene, in every shade of beige and ochre, and capron’s interpretation of nature gently captures our attention, even as this theme has become so pervasive. Winner of the grand prix international de la céramique in 1970, the gold medal at the milan triennale in 1954, and the gold medal in brussels in 1959, roger capron will go down in history as one of the greatest.
