Raised … Read more Striking pair of late 19th-century art glass vases featuring substantial opaque white glass bodies with vivid yellow glass decoration. Raised flowers, leaves and sweeping stems are applied and tooled in relief, with contrasting yellow glass also accenting the flared rims and bases.

The dimensional botanical decoration appears to have been hot-applied rather than cut or carved, creating wonderfully sculptural flowers and foliage with subtle variations between the two vases. The opaque glass is thick and substantial, with a weight and appearance similar to milk glass.

Unmarked. Exact maker and country of origin are unknown; the form, construction and applied-glass technique are consistent with late 19th-century English or Continental European art glass.

A particularly decorative antique pair for a mantel, bookcase or collected tabletop.
